At the time, I HAD NO IDEA, that she would turn my world upside down.

The announcement came in an e-mail on Friday afternoon. There was a new employee starting Monday—a young woman from Seattle hired to temporarily manage some new projects. At the time, I had no idea that she would turn my world upside down.

Her name was Amy.

In the break room that morning, the whispers ran rampant. Those in the know raved that she’s a real up-and-comer in the company, a rising star that had moved from city to city, flying up our corporate ladder. Her professional prowess had impressed everyone, and her beauty was not lost in conversation either.

I caught the first glimpse of her down the hall. She glowed with a natural beauty that made me take a second look, although I could only catch quick snapshots of her profile as she weaved through the office. Later, I learned that she would be working in a cubicle adjacent to mine, a detail that seemed minor at the time.

I mentally practiced my introduction throughout the morning. Anticipation built up in my mind until my stomach turned with anxiety. This girl was something special, and my first impression had to be flawless.
